Opening with the lead single from Pet Shop Boys’ ’Nightlife’ album, ‘I don’t know what you want but I can’t give it any more’ ahead of one side of a double-A #1 for Robbie Williams ‘It’s Only Us’, and Blondie with ‘Nothing Is Real But The Girl’, the follow-up to their comeback chart-topper. Eurythmics made a welcome return with their album ‘Peace’, and from it the lead single ‘I Saved The World Today’ and Travis enjoyed a huge album with ‘The Man Who’ – with ‘Turn’ featured next. Texas had another smash with ‘In Our Lifetime’ and The Corrs released a live unplugged version of ‘Radio’. Next up, Sheryl Crow, followed by two debuts from Spice Girls; Melanie C and Geri Halliwell both launched solo releases with Top 5 singles. Chart superstars Culture Club and Duran Duran feature along with Emmie’s reworking of Roxy Music’s ‘More Than This’. Huge pop-dance tracks from Ricky Martin and Vengaboys come ahead of a run of pure pop classics to close disc 1 from A1, Steps, Westlife, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears with ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy’.

Manic Street Preachers kick off Disc 2 with ‘Tsunami’ followed by Stereophonics and Supergrass, plus huge alt-pop hits from Lit, Hole, The Cardigans, and Suede with ‘She’s In Fashion’. David Sylvian’s ‘I Surrender’ features ahead of Electronic’s ‘Vivid’ and before a stellar run of dancefloor gems including from The Chemical Brothers, Apollo 440, Moby, Jamiroquai and Groove Armada featuring Gramma Funk – plus the disco saluting ‘You Should Be…’ from Blockster. Established chart legends Gloria Estefan and Donna Summer are both included and to complete the disc, M People, Tatyana Ali and ‘I Learned From The Best’ the third hit from Whitney Houston’s ‘My Love Is Your Love’ album.

Steps lead off CD3 with their #2 smash ‘Love’s Got a Hold On My Heart’ followed by more celebratory pop from S Club and A1 – before ‘Music To Watch Girls By’ a 1967 single from Andy Williams and a Top 10 hit in 1999 after featuring in a TV commercial. One of the ‘90s biggest bands Simply Red returned and are featured with ‘Ain’t That A Lot Of Love’, followed by more floor-filling pop dance from Yomanda, Alice Deejay and the second appearance from Vengaboys. Charlotte Perrelli is up next with ‘99’s Eurovision winner ‘Take Me To Your Heaven’ alongside pop hits from A*Teens, Lolly, B*Witched and Thunderbugs. Lighthouse Family leads to the second track featured from Geri Halliwell, ‘Lift Me Up’ which hit #1, plus Precious with ‘Say It Again’, the UK’s entry for the aforementioned Eurovision. The final 5 tracks on the collection are all from massive pop bands, all Top 10 smashes, and finishing on a pair of massive chart-toppers: Five hit #2 with ‘If Ya Gettin’ Down’ and 911 and Another Level both feature with ‘Private Number’ and ‘From The Heart’ respectively. To close, two Irish bands who both celebrated #1s in 1999: After five years of hits, ‘You Needed Me’ became Boyzone’s fifth single to reach the top, and Westlife released their debut single ‘Swear It Again’ in April to see it become the first of four #1s for them in an incredible year.
